I might offer another interpretation for the simplicity: it's not simple because it's designed for "dumb" programmers, it's simple so that programmers can focus on the task and not the language.

I never considered the extreme simplicity to be a disadvantage; however, you argue some strong points. To be honest, I hated Go at first, and now it's my language of choice.

'Simply' put: I suppose it's all a matter of opinion in the end :)
